The Mission recently purchased an AI Translator which works offline for many of the languages of our fishermen. It has been very useful as you can talk into it and they can talk back to you, some of the translations are interesting but you get the idea. It has caused some frustrations by not working when we urgently need it but generally it has made communication easier, especially with those who are staying with us to recover from and illness or injury, trying to establish what food they like and don’t like.
Many people have admired the translator which was just purchased through Amazon and so the Mission purchased a couple more. One of these we have now donated to the KEMH Hospital Ward as they often see our fisherment first and when they are at their most vulnerable. We hope that it works well for them.
